Wait
naw you can’t be serious
Wait
I’ve been waiting for a long time
Should I give you examples
Sandra Bland, Treyvon Martin, Erick Gardner and
the list goes on
And you’re still telling me to wait
…
Wait for what?
Your job is to serve and protect
But the only person your protecting is yourself
Because when you put a gun on the boy head after
he screamed I can’t breathe
You disregarded his humanity and kept squeezing
his neck with your forearm until
The beat of heart was no more
And claim he was resisting
And you want me too wait?
Filling your white supremacist attitude
But I guess it would be rude of me to suggest
you’re racist because you’re white and wear blue
Just like you suggest every black boy with dreads
who don’t have a clue on what his position is in your society
Yet still you want me to wait
…
Wait for my equality and equity
an element I should’ve won in the 1980s
You’ve turned our whips and chains
Into cuffs and bars
Making a black man’s car your bait
Now every time he gets pulled over
He has to remember keep your hands on the wheel
because if you dare move the cops just might clip
you
I guess justice has become blacks’ natural fare
Yet and still you want me to wait
….
So every day I rise up and make it my mission
To fight for my people
I scream “Liberty”
And hope that heals the wounds of racial
discrimination within our community
Because our marches and protest still doesn’t still mean a thing to you
….
The white cloth you’ve destroyed has turned into
badges
But what you fail to understand is
You’re only blue 40 hours a week
I’m black 24/7 ain’t no getting rid of me
Stop trying to mess up our equation
Of declarations
It’s a shame that my ancestors struggle isn’t
enough for you
Today I still try to humble myself by
Trying to Force hand
To make God’s plan
Come back to man
To make amends
But why should I try to make amends
with people who don’t accept me
You look at my black skin
And your radar screams enemy
But sir you want me to wait?
What a disgrace
But follow our trace
We’re keeping our courage
Our struggle is not the end
We’ll have a success story
Screaming
Victory shall be mine
It will be divine
A future is mine
You can see the glory
On the surface
Of our lifelines
