“I told you, no one leaves me,” Nick says, as he stands over Jasmine’s dead body. “You should have heeded my warnings. I warned your friends.” ‘Flashback’ to Nick cutting Lea’s car brake lines. “I warned your parents”. ‘Flashback’ to Nick harming the newborn kittens. “Hell, I have even warned the psychiatrist that the teachers and my parents forced me to go to.” ‘Flashback’ to Nick dousing Mr. Light’s house in gasoline, turning on the gas stove, and putting fireworks in the oven. “They are all alive because they knew what I was capable of, but not you, no, you just had to be so innocent and oblivious to my tactics.” As Nick lays down by Jasmine and looks into her cold, dead eyes, he tells her what he always told her after she got done with cheerleading practice. Or whenever they have to spend some time apart. “We are not meant to be apart, we have to stay together. We balance each other out, we calm one another, and we will fulfill our soon-to-be marriage plans. ‘Til death do us part, yet we both know that we cannot stay away from each other.” After Nick said this, he held onto his dead girlfriend. As police sirens neared, he whispered in her ear “death cannot keep us apart” and slits his own throat deeply, letting their blood mix with each other as he lay with a smile, and her with a frown.
Few Months Earlier
When you walk into Andal Heights high school gym, you see everyone is happy. There is a pep rally going on and everyone is excited. The teachers, staff, students, even the class pet, were all cheering with the cheerleaders and their mascot. Especially, Nick, he is what everyone calls ‘the loner’. But he is not a loner. His girlfriend of 8 years, Jasmine, was down there cheering. She is the only reason why he participates in the stupid activities they have at the school. They first met each other in pre-school, but since he was at that age where girls were “icky”, he did not want to be by her. It even got worse when they had to do a play in kindergarten. Since it was Peter Pan, he had to play Peter Pan and her Wendy. During rehearsals, everything went well, but unknown to him, the teacher told her to actually kiss him at the end instead of just giving him a handshake. So when it was time for the play to end, after their small dialogue, he was getting his hand out to shake hers, she just pulled him into a kiss on the lips. Luckily for him, the curtains closed on them after that, so no one in the audience could see him push her away and runoff, ignoring the teacher calling after him.
After that whole incident, he avoided her, even when she tried to apologize to him the day after the play, telling him that the teacher told her last minute to do it and not tell him he still ignored her. It was not until they entered second grade, that he decided to talk to her. It was only because some boys were picking on her, talking about how her hair looks horrible, that she looks like a hobo, etc. So he decided to save her by going over there and telling the boys that the principal is looking for them in the lunchroom. Since they already had two strikes and did not want to get on the principal’s bad side again, they decided to go off to where the principal was, even though there was supposed to be no one in the lunchroom at that time. Once they were out of sight, she thanked him with her head down and walked off thinking that he was still mad at her from that small incident. With her walking off, he was a little confused on why she would not look at him, but then he remembered his reaction to her in kindergarten after the play.

So after that whole day of school, including him getting beat up by the two boys he saved her from, he tried every way to get her to look at him in the following weeks. The biggest thing he did to get her to notice him was on Valentine’s Day. He had asked his mom the week before what he should do for her after explaining his reaction to what happened after the play. He only told her that she was in the audience, not that she was the girl that kissed him. She and his stepdad, even though he calls him his actual dad since he never met his biological dad because his mom told him he died when he was a newborn, came up with this idea to create a giant card with a heart in the middle cut out, saying ‘you complete me’. He was so nervous to do it, since at that school, whoever you choose as your valentine, you had to present your gift in front of the class to them.
Since he was the person to get picked on a lot, that’s what made him so nervous, thinking that his classmates would call him more names. But once it came time for people to do something for Jasmine, and no one stood up, that gave him the courage to first apologize to her, and have her open the card with him behind it, so she could see the heart, the words, and also him popping out of the heart with paper flowers that he made for her, his idea. The whole class was teasing him during the event, but he didn’t care about them; he just wanted to know her reaction. When he was getting ready to leave to go home after presenting her with the gifts,
she came up to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek, while also slipping a note into his pocket. When he got home and told his parents about what happened, he went straight to his room and opened it seeing a poem she wrote him
I know I messed up and you wanted me out of sight but
I thought what I did was right even though I messed up on play day I’m glad you were special on Valentine’s DayNick kept that paper on him; he even brought it up whenever she decided to embarrass him. After that whole event, everyone thought that they were dating, even though they were just starting out as friends. It wasn’t until the end of second grade, the last day, where the school decided to take them to the museum, that his friends dared him to go up to Jasmine and kiss her on the lips. At first, Nick didn’t want to but decided to see what his reaction would be this time. When they got back to school, there were 5 minutes left to go home, he decided to do it then since he wouldn’t see her again since it was summer break. He just decided to walk up to her, Jasmine saw him and said ‘hey. “Hey, if I do this, please don’t be mad at me after I do this.” Before she could ask, he just pulled her close and
kissed her on the lips. When they were young and did this, all he felt was disgust, now he feels sparks, and also HER KISSING BACK, or was it just his
imagination. No matter which version it was, after he ended the kiss, the teacher told them that they could leave, so he grabbed all of his stuff and left the building, not wanting to know what her reaction to him would be. Unbeknownst to him, his parents actually invited her parents and her over the exact same day for a get-together, since they did not know they actually lived down the street from each other until they met at the play that was 2 years ago. So when he got home, he saw his mom and dad cooking, but he saw that there were more plates than normal. “Mom, what are the extra plates for?” Nick asked confused. “Oh, the Brooks are coming over for dinner at 6” his mom replied, not looking up from stirring the stew. ‘The Brooks’, why does that last name sound so familiar? It wasn’t until he was going to go upstairs did he remember that Jasmine’s last name was Brooks, but that was just a coincidence, right? But to make sure, he asked ‘what Brooks?’ “Oh, the Brooks from down the street, I believe their daughter Jasmine is in your class”. “Isn’t she the same Jasmine that you did the play within kindergarten with that little kiss at the end, or the one you did the valentines card for, or are they the same? ” his dad asked while cutting the carrots to add to the stew. KINDERGARTEN, BROOKS, JASMINE, KISS, KISS, KISS!!!!! Those were the main things going through his head that he had to sit down. His mom came over and asked if he was alright. He couldn’t really answer, all he thought of was that he thought he wouldn’t see her until the next school year and have her avoid him instead of the other way around. “Yeah mom, I’m fine, I just wasn’t expecting to see classmates after the last day of school.” He said while getting up getting ready to go upstairs, but then his dad asked him which Jasmine is coming over, Nick told his dad that they were both, leaving his parents downstairs confused while he ran up to his room. It wasn’t until they heard his door closed did they realize that their son was talking about the same girl who kissed him, and that he made that valentine’s day cards for. “Oh this should be interesting,” said his mom, as she continued stirring the pot with a smile on her face.
