A sepia-tone photographic print of a juvenile elephant in front of the Harlan-Lincoln House was shared in the museum’s spring newsletter. The photographic print has been dated to April 28th, 1960. According to The Mount Pleasant News, “A baby elephant brought in by the Republican students and tethered near the Harlan Lincoln home, was an attraction for the children. A donkey was in evidence for the Democrats and was giving handlers some fun.” That April, the students of Iowa Wesleyan were hosting a mock political convention and believed the respective party’s mascots would be appreciated by the crowd.
